1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using EntoTools (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
EntoTools is a free, browser-based collection of tools for entomological research, including growing degree day (GDD) calculations, weather data lookups, and specimen label generation. The Service is provided for educational and research purposes.
3. No Warranty / Accuracy of Data
The Service and all data it provides are offered "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Weather, climate, geocoding, and astronomical data are obtained from third-party sources (NOAA NCEI, Open-Meteo, Nominatim/OpenStreetMap, Sunrise-Sunset.org) and may contain errors, gaps, or estimates. You are solely responsible for verifying any data before relying on it. Do not use the Service as the sole basis for decisions where inaccuracies could cause harm or loss.
4. Your Data and Backups
Data you enter is stored in your browser and, if you enable Cloud Backup, in your own Google Drive account. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important data. We are not responsible for any loss of data, including data lost due to clearing your browser, device failure, or changes to third-party services such as Google Drive.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or the terms of the third-party data providers.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated means to place excessive load on the underlying data APIs.
- Misrepresent data produced by the Service as authoritative or verified.
6. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services. Your use of those services through the Service is also subject to their respective terms and policies, including Google's Terms of Service. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services.
7. Intellectual Property
The EntoTools source code is available on GitHub and is governed by the license stated in that repository. Data retrieved from third-party providers remains subject to those providers' licensing and attribution requirements.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developers of EntoTools shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or research outcomes, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
9. Changes to the Service and Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service or these Terms at any time. Material changes to these Terms will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
